5-hour generative ambient sound installation with performance moments by Charlotte Aiden Gergaud, at FRAC Alsace

Created for the Fête du Jardin organized by FRAC Alsace on May 21, 2022. For this event, we were given carte blanche to bring life to the garden designed by landscape artists Lenzlinger and Steiner. Around twenty generative ambient sound pieces were played live via a synthesizer from the control room, accompanied by recordings of hikes and readings by Charlotte Aeden Gergaud. The sound was broadcast throughout the space via multiple speakers, tuned and placed near the "guardians" (wooden huts installed in the garden). The entire space was inhabited by sound, and as you move away: the layers dissolve, like stepping out of a fairy tale.

Telling a story through the simple presence of sound in a natural space, listening to what the land is telling us, what it says about us. “How do we translate the life of this vegetation and its inhabitants?” The collaboration with dancer/choreographer Charlotte Aeden Gergaud brought forth fleeting moments of movement and readings within the installed sound universe. The installation, as it is currently conceived, is adaptable and modular. The speakers and the sound in general will be dispersed differently depending on the space, leaving enough room to incorporate other practices (reading, theater, dance, singing...).
